Supertec Unveils Precision 3-Tool Crosshead for EHV Cables

Supertec Machines Pvt. Ltd., a Faridabad-based cable machinery manufacturer, has introduced a 3-tool centering crosshead designed for Extra High Voltage (EHV) cable manufacturing. Launched earlier in 2026, the new crosshead is claimed by the company to be the first of its kind by any Indian machinery manufacturer.

Supertec informed that it has already done a few installations of this new product at cable manufacturing facilities across the country.

Supertec’s 200/220 mm Crosshead Enables Dual-Layer Extrusion

Supertec’s new 200/220 mm crosshead will be mounted 90 degrees to the extrusion line. The Crosshead can accommodate a conductor/core diameter of up to 200 mm, with a maximum finished cable outer diameter (OD) of 220 mm.

Featuring a conical internal design, this crosshead can be connected to two extruders simultaneously, enabling dual-layer jacketing. It is designed to process both polymers and semiconductive compounds.

Enhanced Centering Precision, Reduced Consumption with 3-Tool Design

Supertec’s new Crosshead arrangement comprises a Guider, Nozzle, and Die. The Guider aligns the cable core passing through the crosshead, the Nozzle maintains uniform jacket thickness, and the Die maintains the cable’s final outer diameter.

Together, these three tools facilitate more precise centering and jacket thickness control, minimising excess compound consumption. This can be especially important for extruding expensive compounds, where even small reduction in consumption can result in significant cost savings.

Designed for EHV Cables upto 400kV

According to Supertec Machines, it will support jacketing of EHV cables rated up to 400 kV, with cable cross-sections of upto 2,500 sqmm.

With its large-diameter handling capability, dual-extrusion, and 3-tool centering system, the crosshead enhances Supertec’s machine offering for EHV cable manufacturers seeking improved precision and material efficiency.
