Odisha Govt. Approves Industrial Projects Across Six Districts in State

Odisha government’s High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA), chaired by Mr. Mohan Charan Majhi, CM of Odisha, has approved the development of multiple industrial projects in the state. The approved projects span key sectors such as Aluminium, chemicals, Steel, textiles, and metal downstream industries.

Taken together, these projects are expected to create a total of over 60,000 job opportunities.

Eight Industrial Projects Approved in 6 Districts of Odisha

Aforementioned approved projects will be developed in Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Khurda, and Sambalpur districts of Odisha.

Vedanta Aluminium to Set up 3 MMTPA Smelter and 4,900 MW Power Plant in Dhenkanal

Vedanta Aluminium will be developing a Rs. 1.28 lakh crore project in Dhenkanal district of Odisha. In this project, the company will be setting up an Aluminium smelter with a capacity of 3 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA). Vedanta Aluminium will also set up a 4,900 MW Captive Power Plant (CPP) in Dhenkanal district.

Vedanta Aluminium’s upcoming project is expected to generate 30,000 job opportunities in the region.

The company’s project in Dhenkanal comes months after Vedanta announced aluminium complex in Rayagada, which will be developed in multiple phases. The first phase of this project is expected to be commissioned within the next three years.

Jindal India Steel’s 1.26 MMTPA Speciality Steel Processing Plant in Odisha

Odisha government’s HLCA has also approved Jindal India Steel Tech Ltd.’s speciality Steel processing unit. The company will invest Rs. 3,600 crore to set up a 1.26 MMTPA speciality Steel processing facility in Dhenkanal district of Odisha. This unit will create around 2,000 employment opportunities in the state.

Shyam Steel to Invest Rs. 2,500 Crore for Steel Manufacturing Plant

Odisha state government’s HLCA also greenlighted Shyam Steel Manufacturing Ltd.’s integrated Steel plant, which will come up in Keonjhar, Odisha. This 0.53 MMTPA plant is expected to entail a Rs. 2,490 crore investment. At this facility, the company will also develop a Ductile Iron (DI) pipe unit, and a 46 MW captive power plant. This project is expected to generate 2,370 employment opportunities.

Other Industrial Units Approved by Odisha Government

Apart from the aforementioned projects, Odisha government has also approved investments for other industrial projects such as air separation units, textile industry and metal downstream sector.

The committee has given its nod to Linde India Ltd.’s air separation unit in Jajpur district, which is expected to come up with an investment of Rs. 1,303.50 crore. The facility will produce industrial gases, and will generate about 100 employment opportunities.

In the metal downstream sector, Star Metal Works Pvt. Ltd. will invest Rs. 2,291 crore in Sambalpur to establish a narrow hot strip mill, along with cold rolling and plate cum Steckle mill. This project is expected to create 250 jobs. Moreover, Supreme Metals Export Pvt. Ltd. will set up a 1.2 MMTPA rolling mill for TMT bars and wire rods in Keonjhar, with an investment of Rs. 1,500 crore. Supreme Metal Export’s facility will potentially to generate about 680 jobs.

In the textiles sector, Sportking India Ltd. will invest Rs. 2,055 crore to set up a cotton and blended yarn manufacturing unit in Khurdha district, with a production capacity of 62,000 MT per year. This project is expected to employ 4,800 people.

In Ganjam, SRF Limited will be investing Rs. 10,000 crore for setting up a specialty chemicals and refrigerant manufacturing unit. This unit will have a production capacity of 2 lakh MT annually, and will create around 20,000 job opportunities.

Projects worth Rs. 5.67 Lakh Crore Cleared in Odisha Since June 2024

Since June 2024, there have been 6 HLCA meetings of the Odisha government. In these meetings, a total of 62 projects have been greenlighted by the HLCA, entailing a total investment of about Rs. 5.67 lakh crore. Taken together, these projects can be expected to create about 2.42 lakh jobs in Odisha.
