Shiva Cement Receives Environmental Clearance for Dolomite Mining

Shiva Cement, a subsidiary of JSW Cement, has received modified environmental clearance for its Khatkurbahal (North) Block Limestone and Dolomite Mines in Sundargarh district, Odisha.

Following this new development, Shiva Cement will be able to mine dolomite at a capacity of 2.4 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA), in addition to its previous limestone mining operation at the same mining block. According to the company, this mine holds 89.09 million tonnes of dolomite resources, of which 48.27 million tonnes are mineable.

Furthermore, apart from mining, this approval extends to the sale of dolomite mined from this block. As Dolomite is sought after by steel, glass, refractories, and other associated industries, Shiva Cement’s new merchant sales stream following the approval will cater to such industries. Also, the company will strengthen raw material supply chain for JSW ecosystem.

Commneting on this recent development, Mr. Manoj Kumar Rustagi, Whole-time Director & Chief Executive Officer CEO of Shiva Cement, said, “Being able to commercialise 2.4 million tonnes of dolomite a year — over and above our existing product slate — gives us a new revenue stream, deepens our presence in Odisha’s mineral economy, and reinforces the raw material security that underpins our growth in eastern India.”
