BPCL to Set-up Rs. 95,000 Cr. Refinery Project in Andhra Pradesh
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) will be developing an oil refinery-cum-petrochemical complex at an estimated cost of Rs. 95,000 crore. This project will come up in east coast of Andhra Pradesh in an area of about 6,000 acres.
BPCL’s upcoming refinery will have 9 Million Metric Tonne Per Annum (MMTPA) of crude oil processing capacity. This plant will also have about 3 to 3.5 MMTPA of petrol and diesel production capacity. During an investor call of the company, Mr. Vetsa Ramakrishna Gupta, BPCL Director (finance) said that the company’s Board of Directors had approved an investment of Rs. 6,100 crore for pre-project activities of this project such as acquisition of land and preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR).
The company did not mention the completion period of this refinery project.
BPCL is India’s third largest oil refiner. The company currently operates refineries in Mumbai with a yearly capacity of 12 Million Metric Tonnes (MMT), in Kochi with 15.5 MMT capacity, and in Bina with 7.8 MMT production capacity. Bharat Petroleum is in the process of expanding its Bina refinery to 11 MMTPA.
