Kanpur to get Rs. 700 crore EV Manufacturing Park
Uttar Pradesh government will be investing Rs. 700 crore for setting up a hub for manufacturing Electric Vehicles (EV) components in Kanpur. This project will be developed by Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) under Kanpur Metropolitan Development Vision – 2030.
UPSIDA’s EV component manufacturing park will sprawl over 500 acres in Kanpur’s Bhimsen area. The park will be developed in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, and will have units for manufacturing electric motors, chassis, Steel parts, and Lithium-ion cells used in EVs. Facilities for assembling Lithium-ion batteries, chargers, controllers, and electronic components will also be established. Apart from the manufacturing and assembling facilities, UPSIDA will also set up a Research & Development (R&D) centre as a key part of this project to facilitate advanced product development.
Kanpur’s EV component manufacturing park will be in proximity to Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), enabling smooth connectivity for transportation of finished goods as well as raw materials.
Aforementioned project will be key in localising EV component production. Major challenge in this regard remains localisation of components such as motors, batteries, and Battery Management Systems (BMS).
