SAIL to Expand its Bokaro Steel Plant with Rs. 20,000 Cr. Investment
Steel Authority of India will be investing Rs. 20,000 crore for expansion of its Bokaro steel plant in Jharkhand.
As per this expansion plan, hot metal production capacity at this plant will be increased to 7.55 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA) from the current 5.25 MMTPA. The company will install a new 4,500 cubic meter blast furnace, a thin slab casting and direct rolling facility, a calcining plant, and a stamp-charged coke oven battery to increase production at this plant.
This expansion will create 10,000 indirect job and 2,500 permanent job opportunities in Jharkhand.
SAIL’s expansion at its Bokaro steel plant aligns with Indian Government’s target to reach 300 MMTPA steel production capacity by 2030. While visiting the Bokaro Steel plant, Union Minister of Heavy Industries of Govt. of India, said “The infusion of capital and technological advancements will bolster the steel sector and contribute significantly to India’s economic growth”.
The Bokaro Steel Plant, established in 1965 and started its first blast furnace operations in 1972. Initially it had a capacity of 1.7 MMTPA. Over time, the plant’s capacity has been increased to 5.25 MMTPA.
