780 Km National Highways to undergo Rehabilitation & Upgradation

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has given a green signal for rehabilitation, up-gradation and strengthening of national highway stretches for a total of 780 Km. These highways are ranging from two to four and four to six lanes, passing through Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh.

Investment involved for the work is Rs. 7,662.47 Cr, out of which loan component will be Rs. 3,500 Cr. As per Press Information Bureau’s release dated 13th March 2020, “The loan assistance of the World Bank will be under Green National Highways Corridor Project (GNHCP)” and “construction period for project stretches will be 2/3 years.

On completion of construction of project it shall entail maintenance for 5 years in the case of flexible pavement and for 10 years in the case of rigid pavement.

The project comprises of the following components – Sustainable development and maintenance of National Highways, Institutional Capacity Enhancement, Road Safety, and Research and Development.
