Suzlon Group Wins India’s Largest Wind Energy Order From NTPC Green Energy

Suzlon Group has won India’s largest wind energy order from NTPC Green Energy Ltd. (NGEL) for developing 1,166 MW of wind power projects in Gujarat. This information was shared by Suzlon in its press release dated 9th September 2024.

Suzlon’s Scope of Work for NTPC’s Wind Power Order

As per the wind power order from NTPC Green Energy, Suzlon will supply and install 370 Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW each. These wind turbines will be supplied from Suzlon’s S144 Wind Turbine Generator series. Each of these WTGs will be mounted on a Hybrid Lattice Tubular* (HLT) Tower.

Suzlon will also undertake the testing and commissioning of these wind turbines. Following this, the company will provide Operation and Maintenance (O&M) services for these turbines.

*A Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) tower is used to mount wind turbine generator to the desired height. It consists of three components, namely a lattice tower, transition piece, and the tubular tower. The lattice tower is assembled on-site by welding steel profiles just above the foundation of the HLT tower, while the tubular tower forms the top part of the HLT tower. These two sections of the HLT tower are connected by means of a transition piece.

Wind Turbines to be Installed at Three Project Sites in Gujarat

Wind turbines supplied in this order will be installed at three sites in Gujarat. Suzlon mentioned that some of these turbines will be deployed at two sites of NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy) and at a site of IndianOil NTPC Green Energy Pvt. Ltd. (a Joint Venture between IndianOil and NTPC Green Energy).

Commenting on this project, Mr. Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, said “This project will emerge as the largest wind energy initiative by a PSU in Gujarat, cementing the state’s leadership in renewable energy. Upon completion, it will set a new benchmark for future projects, substantially contributing to India’s energy self‐sufficiency, economic prosperity, and NGEL’s ambitious target of adding 60 GW renewable energy capacity by 2032”.

Suzlon Group’s Order Book Surges to 5 GW

With this new order win, Suzlon’s cumulative order book stands at about 5 GW as of 3rd September 2024.

Apart from this 1,166 MW wind power order, some of the company’s other recent major order wins include a June 2024 order from AMPIN Energy Transition Pvt. Ltd. for developing 103.95 MW wind energy project in Rajasthan. In May 2024, Suzlon had won an order from Aditya Birla Group for supplying 175 WTGs, and two orders from Juniper Green Energy Private Ltd. for supplying 402 MW of WTGs in Rajasthan. Further, Suzlon had opened CY 2024 with a 225 MW wind project from Everrenew Energy Pvt. Ltd. followed by a 642 MW wind power project win from ABC Cleantech in January.
