RR Kabel Enters OFC Business with UM Cables Acquisition
RR Kabel Limited, an Indian manufacturer of wires, cables and FMEG products, has acquired UM Cables Limited, a manufacturer of Optical Fibre Cables (OFCs), for Rs. 77 crore. Through this acquisition, RR Kabel has forayed into OFC business.
The companies have signed the business transfer agreement for this acquisition on 25th September 2026. RR Kabel stated cash as the mode of payment for the acquisition.
UM Cables’ Optical Fibre Cables Manufacturing Capabilities
UM Cables, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Usha Martin Limited, was incorporated on 7th July 1987. The company is engaged in manufacturing and sale of Optical Fibre Cables at its plant in Silvassa. UM Cables’ manufacturing plant has an annual production capacity of 1.2 Million Fibre-Km (fkm) of OFCs, 0.75 Mn fkm of copper telecommunication cables, and 0.5 million Km of Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) rods.
Over the last three years, UM Cables has reported a decline in its revenue. The company’s revenue stood at Rs. 135.34 crore in FY24, declined to Rs. 99.91 crore in FY25 and further decreased to Rs. 78.19 crore in FY26.
RR Kabel Expands its Communication Products Portfolio
This acquisition marks an important step for RR Kabel as the company adds OFCs as a new business segment to its portfolio. Prior to the acquisition, RR Kabel’s communication products catalog focused entirely on traditional copper cables including LAN cables, telephone cables, and coaxial cables.
The acquisition of UM Cables will provide RR Kabel with immediate access to manufacturing assets, existing approvals and an operating track record for the production of Optical Fibre Cables.
Commenting on this acquisition, Mr. Rajesh Kabra, Joint Managing Director, RR Kabel, said “….we are acquiring an established operating platform with ready manufacturing assets, existing approvals and a demonstrated track record. This gives us a strong foundation in OFC while significantly shortening the time required to build these capabilities organically”.
