BHEL Secures Rs. 7,500 Cr. Order for 800 MW Thermal Power Unit in Gujarat

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL), has won an order from Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (GSECL) for developing Unit-7 of Ukai Supercritical Thermal Power Plant, Gujarat. This order has been valued at approximately Rs. 7,500 crore.

BHEL to Execute New 800 MW Unit at Ukai TPP

BHEL’s scope of work in this project entails supply of boiler, turbine and generator, along with associated control and instrumentation (C&I) works for the new 800 MW unit at Ukai Supercritical TPP. Apart from this, BHEL will also execute allied electrical works and Balance of Plant (BoP) packages for this unit. Moreover, BHEL will be responsible for construction and commissioning of the aforementioned thermal power plant. BHEL added, “The scope also includes the supply of highly efficient emission control equipment”, however, BHEL has not clarified on the specific nature of this equipment.

Unit-7 of the Ukai Supercritical TPP is expected to be completed and commissioned in 54 months. Moreover, BHEL will build this new unit on existing ash dyke* area of the Ukai TPP.

*Ash dyke refers to an embankment built to contain ash slurry and settled ash from a thermal power plant, for effcient ash disposal.

“Decades of Successful Partnership” – BHEL on Ukai TPP Order Win

In its press release dated 21st March 2025, BHEL mentioned that the aforementioned order marks “decades of successful partnership”, since BHEL had earlier commissioned Unit-1 of the Ukai TPP in 1976. Unit-1 of the Ukai TPP was a 120 MW sub-critical thermal power unit, which was retired from service on 1st April 2017.
