Indian Railways to Upgrade OHE for Vande Bharat Trains

Indian Railways will be upgrading Over Head Electrification (OHE) system for Vande Bharat trains by doubling the number of transmission lines.

All Vande Bharat routes will now be equipped with 2 x 25 KV traction system. This includes the 75 new Vande Bharat trains that are to be rolled out by August 2023. The 1 x 25 KV traction systems which are already in place on Vande Bharat routes will also be upgraded to 2 x 25 KV. This upgradation in the OHE system will ensure adequate and reliable power supply for the smooth operation of Vande Bharat trains.

A Rs 1,140 crore tender has already been awarded by the Ministry of Railways for upgrading the OHE system for a 650 track Km stretch between Delhi and Mugalsararai. Budget for OHE system up-gradation on the Delhi – Mumbai and Delhi – Howrah routes has already been sanctioned, while that for Mumbai – Chennai and Kolkata – Chennai routes is in process of getting sanctioned.
