Airbus Partners with Tata Group for Helicopter Manufacturing in India

Airbus has signed an agreement with Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) to establish a Final Assembly Line (FAL) for manufacturing civil helicopters in India. Airbus’ release dated 26th January 2024 stated, “The FAL will be the first instance of the private sector setting up a helicopter manufacturing facility in India”.

Under the partnership, TASL will collaborate with Airbus Helicopters to produce H125 single-engine civil helicopters for use in India and for export to India’s neighbouring countries. This will entail handling the complete helicopter assembly including installation of electrical harnesses, dynamic components, avionics and mission systems, hydraulic circuits, flight controls, fuel systems, and engine.

This upcoming plant is expected to be developed within 24 months, and the delivery of H125 helicopters is expected to begin in 2026.

Commenting on this development, Mr. Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus, said, “This will be the second final assembly line Airbus is building in India after the ‘Make in India’ C295 military aircraft manufacturing facility in Vadodara, Gujarat”.
