Kanohar Electricals Eyes 765 kV Transformer Segment with ₹64 Cr Expansion

Kanohar Electricals Limited, a Meerut-based transformer manufacturer, plans to invest ₹64.18 crore towards brownfield expansion of transformer manufacturing capacity at its Gangol facility in Uttar Pradesh. This investment will be deployed over the next 18 months.

This CapEx will be partly funded from the ₹300 Cr. fresh issue component of the company’s recently concluded ₹1,055.7 crore Initial Public Offering (IPO).

Kanohar to Double Transformer Capacity to 37,200 MVA

Out of the total capex, ₹24.18 crore will be allocated towards initial civil works, facility modernization, and infrastructure setup. The company will deploy this capex in FY27.

The remaining ₹40 crore will be directed towards purchase of new machinery and equipment for Gangol facility. Further, this investment includes civil works and expanding backward integration (such as radiator and tank fabrication). Deployment of this investment is slated for FY28.

Kanohar will add 18,000 MVA in transformer manufacturing capacity through this brownfield expansion, nearly doubling the capacity from existing 19,200 MVA to 37,200 MVA.

“Based on our current trajectory, our existing capacity is sufficient through FY28, and we aim to have this new capacity in place for FY29, well before we approach our limits”, said Mr. Abhishek Singhal, Whole Time Director, Kanohar Electricals.

Planning to Manufacture 765 kV EHV Transformers

The capacity augmentation at Gangol facility aligns with Kanohar Electricals’ plans to shift towards manufacturing of 765 KV Extra High Voltage (EHV) transformers.

While the company currently does not manufacture or supply 765 KV transformers, the planned brownfield expansion will enable production of this extra-high-voltage transformer. During Kanohar’s Q2 FY27 earnings call, Mr Singhal mentioned that the company has already developed in-house manufacturing technology for 765 KV transformer.

Commenting on 765 KV segment vision, Mr Singhal added, “765 kV, this is our next major step… Interestingly, no player in India has yet completed a 765 kV short-circuit test, so on that front, the field is level… We must win our first orders, supply them and demonstrate satisfactory field operations”. He added that it will take up to 4 years before the company is eligible for regular 765 KV tenders.
