Tata Electronics and Qualcomm to Manufacture Automotive Modules in Assam
Tata Electronics Private Ltd. and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, have announced their partnership to develop automotive semiconductor modules. In this collaboration, Tata Electronics will serve as the manufacturing partner for Qualcomm’s automotive modules.
Manufacturing of the automotive modules will take place at Tata Electronics’ upcoming Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Jagiroad, Assam. As such, this collaboration—aligned with ‘Make in India’—will enable domestic production of digital cockpits, infotainment, connectivity, and intelligent vehicle systems. This is also especially noteworthy as the manufacturing will take place in the less industrialised eastern part of India.
Furthermore, as per Tata Electronics press release, Qualcomm’s Automotive Modules provide a ready-to-use solution for automakers. Here, the ready-to-use solutions are Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis system-on-chips (SoCs) integrated with other related components in a single production module. This makes it easier for the auto makers as they plug this module directly into the vehicle to enable smart features.
Now, as a result of this collaboration, Tata Electronics will gain exposure to the global networks of module manufacturing partners linked with Qualcomm Technologies. Also, this will help meet growing demands of domestic and global automakers and further facilitate industry’s transition into software- defined vehicles.
