Welspun New Energy, Gujarat Pipavav Port Partner for Green Hydrogen Facilities

Welspun‘s subsidiary, Welspun New Energy Ltd. (WNEL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gujarat Pipavav Port Limited to jointly develop Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia plants in Gujarat. Press Trust of India (PTI) reported that Welspun will be investing about Rs. 40,000 crore to develop these facilities.

Welspun New Energy will develop Green Hydrogen facilities on the land provided by Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd. MoneyControl reported on 10th January 2024 that Welspun New Energy will produce Green Hydrogen, Green Ammonia and Green Methanol in these to-be-developed facilities. The company has received approval from Gujarat government to develop Renewable Energy (RE) plants on approximately 20,000 acre of land.

Commenting on this development, Mr. Kapil Maheshwari, Executive Director & CEO of Welspun New Energy, said, “The collaboration is aimed at creating an ecosystem for GPPL’s transition towards sustainability through a mix of Green Ammonia and Green Methanol”.
