TARIL Becomes First Indian-Origin Company to Win HVDC Transformer Order

Transformers & Rectifiers (India) Ltd. (TARIL) has secured a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transformer-related order from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL). The total value of this order stands at Rs. 53.33 crore.

In its stock filing dated 4th December 2025, Transformers & Rectifiers stated that this development marks TARIL’s entry into the HVDC transformer segment, making it the first Indian-origin company to achieve this milestone. The company also highlighted in its stock filing that “this [order] opens major opportunities for the company in the HVDC segment”.

TARIL’s Scope of Work and HVDC Project Execution

Scope of work under the awarded HVDC Transformer order includes repair, erection, testing and commissioning of a 397 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) HVDC converter transformer. In addition, TARIL will be responsible for completing other associated works essential to the overall execution of the project.

According to TARIL, this order is expected to be executed by the next financial year.

Sharing his views on this achievement, Mr. Mukul P. Srivastava, CEO, Transformers & Rectifiers (India), said, Securing this order from Power Grid Corporation of India is an important achievement for TARIL and a strong endorsement of our technical capabilities”.

India’s Expanding HVDC Market

India’s HVDC market is experiencing steady growth, driven by the deployment of large-scale renewable energy projects, including the country’s offshore wind power generation target of 30 GW by 2030. Additional market drivers include the expansion of Green Energy Corridor, interconnection of asynchronous grids, and several emerging cross-border transmission projects.

As per a report published by Research and Markets, the Indian HVDC Transmission Systems market size is estimated at USD 3.86 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 5.84 billion by 2030, reflecting a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 8.65% during the forecast period.

The report further indicates that HVDC overhead transmission system is likely to retain its dominant market share, making it the leading segment within India’s HVDC market through 2030.
