NHPC Signs MoU for India’s Largest 3,097 MW Etalin Hydel Project

NHPC Ltd. has recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Arunachal Pradesh Government for the implementation of Etalin Hydro Electric Project. Notably, with a planned capacity of 3,097 MW, this project will be the largest hydro power project in India.

Following the nod from state government, NHPC will move forward with a preliminary investigation for pre-feasibility report and then a detailed investigation to prepare Detailed Project Report (DPR).

NHPC will undertake the development, commissioning, implementation, and Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of the Etalin Hydroelectric project. The project will be implemented on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis. NHPC will operate the project under a 40-year lease applicable from the start of commercial operation, after which ownership will be transferred back to the state government.

Etalin Hydro Electric Project will be built on Dri & Tangon rivers in Dibang Basin of Arunachal Pradesh, and will be developed as a run-of-the-river scheme.

Previously, in February 2026, NHPC had approved an investment of Rs. 5,702.91 crore for two Hydro Electric projects in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
