ABB Launches Proteus PV Inverters and BESS Solutions for RE Projects

ABB Group, a global technology leader in electrification and automation, has expanded its Renewable Energy (RE) portfolio with the launch of its new Proteus PV solar inverters and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions.
The newly launched products will support utility-scale solar and energy storage projects across the world. These systems will deliver efficiency up to 99.45%.
Proteus PV Inverters Launch: Designed for Large-Scale Solar Projects
ABB’s Proteus portfolio includes solar inverters developed for utility-scale solar installations. The newly launched inverters have a 4.7 MVA power rating and a Total Harmonic Distortion of Current (THDi) of less than 0.7%. The inverters feature a dual power-module design and have been developed to meet the growing demand for large-scale solar projects in China, India, and the United States. The inverters are available in four variants: Proteus PV 4100, Proteus PV 4300, Proteus PV 4500, and Proteus PV 4700.
Voltage Range of Proteus PV Inverters
- Proteus PV 4100: 835 – 1500 V
- Proteus PV 4300: 875 – 1500 V
- Proteus PV 4500: 915 – 1500 V
- Proteus PV 4700: 955 – 1500 V
The company mentioned that the Proteus PV inverter has been designed for a 30-year service life.
Proteus BESS Solutions Offer Advanced Energy Storage Capabilities
ABB has also introduced its Proteus Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions, which include bi-directional converter stations and advanced control systems. The bi-directional converter stations manage the flow of energy between the grid and the battery storage system, while the control systems help optimize performance and maintain grid stability.
The newly launched BESS systems will provide several advanced features, including grid-forming capability, which helps dynamically control voltage and frequency, black-start operation, which enables the power grid to restart independently following a blackout, and ultra-low harmonic distortion, which ensures the delivery of high-quality Alternating Current (AC) power.
According to ABB’s official press release, the Proteus BESS solutions have also been designed with a 30-year service life.
ABB to Showcase Proteus Portfolio at Intersolar Europe 2026
ABB will showcase its new Proteus solar inverter at Intersolar Europe 2026, scheduled to be held from 22nd June to 25th June 2026 in Munich, Germany. The exhibition will also highlight emerging trends such as agri-PV, floating solar, integrated PV and heat pump systems, and e-mobility solutions.
Commenting on this launch, Mr. Daniel Gerber, Business Line Manager, Renewable Power at ABB, said, “The global energy transition requires proven, scalable, and reliable power conversion solutions. With over 120 GW of power conversion capacity installed to date, ABB combines its enhanced portfolio of PV, BESS, and control systems technologies, global presence, engineering, manufacturing, and service capabilities to deliver high performance and consistent project execution worldwide.”
