Gujarat state Government owned firm, Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd. (GACL) and GAIL India Ltd. on 17th December 2021 signed a memorandum of understanding to set up a 500 KLD (Kilolitres Per Day) bio-Ethanol plant with an estimated investment of ₹ 1,000 crore in Gujarat.
The MoU was signed by the representatives of both companies at Gandhinagar in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel. This proposed plant will use corn or rice husk as feed stock to produce bio-Ethanol, which will be used for blending in petrol.
The Indian Government has set a target of 20% Ethanol-blending in petrol by 2025 to reduce the import of crude oil and thereby save on foreign exchange.
