JSW Energy Receives LoA to Develop 1,600 MW Thermal Power Plant in West Bengal

JSW Energy has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) for developing an ultra super critical 1,600 MW Thermal Power Plant. The company has secured this project through competitive bidding process.

JSW Energy to Invest Rs. 16,000 Cr. in Salboni TPP

JSW Energy will be investing Rs. 16,000 crore for developing the above-mentioned 1,600 MW thermal power project in Salboni, West Bengal. Mr. Sajjan Jindal, Chairman of JSW Group shared this information during Bengal Global Business summit 2025.

JSW Energy will be responsible for developing the aforementioned thermal power project consisting of two units of 800 MW capacity each. This thermal power plant will utilize domestic coal allocated to West Bengal under Shakti B (iv) policy*.

*The SHAKTI B (iv) policy, part of India’s SHAKTI coal allocation scheme, pre-declares coal linkages to states. This enables states to conduct competitive bidding for power procurement by their Discoms, using those earmarked linkages for fresh Power Purchase Agreements.

JSW Energy’s 30 GW Under-Construction Capacity Puts Company on Track to Achieve 20 GW Before 2030

With this project win, JSW Energy now has 30 GW of power projects under various stages of development, which includes 9 GW of thermal power plants. The company mentioned in its stock filing that, this positions the company to achieve its 2030 target of having 20 GW power generation capacity well ahead of schedule.

Additionally, JSW Energy is in the process of acquiring KSK Mahanadi Power Co. Ltd.’s 3.6 GW thermal power assets at an estimated value of Rs. 15,985 crore.
