ABB India Launches New Range of LV Flame Proof Motors

ABB India has launched its new range of Low Voltage (LV) flame proof motors for ‘potentially explosive’ environments. This means that these motors have been designed for use in industries such as chemicals, oil & gas, FMCG and pharmaceuticals.
New LV Motor Range Available from 37 KW to 500 KW
ABB’s new range of flame proof motors encompasses variants in the 37 to 500 KW range, and in frame sizes from 280 to 355. These motors have outputs ranging from 0.18 KW to 500 KW, and they can operate in external temperatures ranging from -20 degrees Celsius t0 +60 degree Celsius.
As stated above, these motors are designed for use in environments having flammable gases and chemicals, specifically, those classified in groups IIC, IIB and IIC*. Apart from this, ABB’s new motors have enclosures which can withstand high pressures in the event of internal explosions.
*This classification of flammable gases uses Minimum Ignition Energy (MIE) as the metric, where IIC group gases have the lowest MIE, IIB gases have a higher MIE than IIC gases, and IIA group gases have the highest MIE out of the three.
ABB is offering these flame proof motors in IE2, IE3 and IE4 efficiency classes which are designed to optimize performance while reducing energy consumption.
ABB’s New LV Flame Proof Motors Manufactured at Bengaluru
Aforementioned range of LV flame proof motors have their production in Bengaluru. Mr. Sanjeev Arora, President, Motion Business, ABB India explained “Engineered to outrun, these Made-in-India motors are designed for the toughest conditions, combining advanced flameproof technology with superior performance”.
ABB India Targets 95% Localised Production
In a February interview to CNBC-TV18, ABB India’s MD shared that the company is targeting 95% localisation as a part of its ‘Local for Local’ strategy. Explaining the reason for the company adopting this strategy, he added, “We learned out of COVID period, wherein if the supply disruption takes place…it can be a bit of an issue to serve the customers…the more reliant you are in the market where you want to be present, long-term local for local is our strategy”.
