BHEL to Supply Compact Heat Exchangers to HAL for 83 Tejas LCAs

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) announced in its press release dated 14th February 2022 that it has received an order from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), for Compact Heat Exchangers (CHE) to be used in MK1A variant of Tejas Light Combat Aircrafts (LCA).

The order entails manufacturing, assembly, testing and supply of the CHE sets for 83 HAL manufactured Tejas LCAs. HAL had received the contract for these 83 Tejas aircrafts from the Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India at the inaugural ceremony of Aero India-2021.

BHEL shall carry out manufacturing of these CHEs at its Heavy Plates and Vessels Plant (HPVP) at Visakhapatnam, which has been the only supplier of Compact Heat Exchangers for Tejas aircrafts to HAL since 1996. 13 different types of CHEs have been designed and developed by BHEL-HPVP and Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), Bangalore, in mutual collaboration.
