ANDRITZ Receives Pump Turbine Supply Order for Bhivpuri PSP
ANDRITZ Group informed via a recent press release that the company will be supplying pumped storage units for Tata Power Company Limited’s 1,000 MW Bhivpuri Pumped Hydro Storage Project (PSP) in Maharashtra. According to the company, value of this order lies in the low three-digit million-euro range.
As per the press release, ANDRITZ will supply three reversible pump turbines, along with motor-generators, and other related electromechanical equipment. Also, the company will undertake design, manufacturing, installation, testing, and commissioning of the pumped storage units.
The Bhivpuri PSP project received its environmental clearance in May 2025 and is estimated to have an investment of Rs. 4,743.59 crore. In May 2025, Tata Power awarded a Rs. 2,470 crore civil contract for the Bhivpuri PSP to Hindustan Construction Company Ltd. (HCC). This civil contract was awarded in a 50-50 Joint Venture between HCC and Tata Projects Limited. With construction in progress, the Bhivpuri PSP is expected to be commissioned by August 2028.
This will be a major addition in India’s vision to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil energy by 2030, where PSP will play a crucial role. Highlighting the importance of PSP, Mr. Shri Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson, Central Electricity Authority (CEA), mentioned that long-duration energy storage capabilities of PSP is pivotal in sustaining the unprecedented growth of renewable energy in India.
