Amazon Joins Hands with Vibrant Energy for 300 MW Hybrid Power in India
Amazon India stated in a press release dated 1st December 2022 that it will be developing two wind–solar hybrid power projects in India in collaboration of Vibrant Energy, a subsidiary of Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG). These two hybrid power projects will have a collective capacity of 300 MW, and they will be located in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.
Amazon has already stated earlier that it would be purchasing 420 MW of power from three upcoming solar farms in Rajasthan. Therefore, this recent development takes the company’s Renewable Energy (RE) procurement in India from utility-scale projects to a total of 720 MW.
Commenting on these hybrid projects, Abhinav Singh, Director – Customer Fulfilment, Supply Chain and Global Specialty Fulfilment, Amazon India, said, “The two new projects represent Amazon’s first wind-solar hybrid projects globally. We are on a path to powering our operations globally with 100% renewable energy by 2025”.
