Adani Power to Develop Rs. 10,500 Crore Thermal Power Project in MP

Adani Power Limited, one of India’s largest thermal power generators, will set up an 800 MW thermal power project with an investment of Rs. 10,500 crore in Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh. The company has received Letter of Award (LoA) for this project from MP Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL).
Project Details and Employment Opportunities
Adani Power’s 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power project will be developed on a Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) basis. Power generated from the plant will be supplied to MP Power Management Company at a tariff of Rs. 5.84 per KWh.
The aforementioned project is expected to be completed within 54 months from the appointed date. During the construction phase, the project is projected to create around 6,000–7,000 job opportunities, while around 1,000 personnel will be employed in the operational phase.
Speaking about the development, Mr. S.B. Khyalia, Chief Executive Officer of Adani Power, said, “The Anuppur plant will play a pivotal role in ensuring reliable, affordable, and competitively priced power for households and businesses, strengthening India’s and Madhya Pradesh’s energy security and fueling continued progress in the state”.
Annupur thermal project will utilize coal allocated to Madhya Pradesh under the SHAKTI Policy (Scheme for Harnessing and Allocating Koyala Transparently in India), ensuring transparent and efficient coal allocation for the power sector.
It is also interesting to note that boiler, turbine generators and related auxiliaries for this thermal power plant will be supplied by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).
Fourth Major Power Supply Order in the Past Year
This marks the fourth major power supply order received by Adani Power in the last 12 months. Among its recent large-scale projects are a 2,400 MW thermal power project in Bihar with an investment of USD 3 billion, and a 1,500 MW thermal power project in Uttar Pradesh, awarded in May 2025.
Commenting on the company’s expansion, Mr. Khyalia added, “As India’s power demand continues to rise, driven by rapid economic growth, especially the base load power, it is imperative to invest in robust energy infrastructure to meet the nation’s growing needs”.
Adani Power Eyes 41 GW Thermal Power Capacity by 2032
Adani Power has set a target to have 41 GW of thermal power generation by 2032. This target of the company aligns with Indian government target of having 80 GW of installed thermal power capacity by 2032. The company plans to invest around Rs. 1.8 lakh crore for this capacity addition. Currently, Adani Power has a coal-fired power portfolio of 18,150 MW spread across eight states. Out of this current total thermal power generation capacity, 7,270 MW has been added inorganically, and the remaining 10,840 MW organically.
