Adani Enters Energy Storage with India’s Largest BESS Project at Khavda
In a press release dated 11th November 2025, Adani Group announced its entry into the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) sector with a 1,126 MW / 3,530 MWh project at Khavda, Gujarat. According to the company, this “…will be the largest BESS installation in India and one of the world’s largest single-location BESS deployments”. As per several media reports, currently the world’s largest operational BESS deployment is Edwards & Sanborn project in California with a capacity of 3,280 MWh.
Adani Group’s upcoming BESS project will feature a power capacity of 1,126 MW and an energy storage capacity of 3,530 MWh. The company will deploy over 700 BESS containers for this project, which is expected to be commissioned by March 2026.
The aforementioned project will utilize lithium-ion battery technology and integrate advanced energy management systems. Commenting on this development, Mr. Gautam Adani, Chairman of Adani Group, said, “Energy storage is the cornerstone of a renewable-powered future. With this historic project, we are not only setting global benchmarks but also reinforcing our commitment to India’s energy independence and sustainability”.
In addition to the Khavda project, Adani Group targets to achieve 15 GWh of BESS capacity by March 2027, with a long-term goal of reaching 50 GWh over the next five years.
