ABB Launches Modular Switches to be Manufactured using Cobots

ABB India, the manufacturer of electrical and electronics goods has launched two new switch ranges Millenium and Zenit range.

ABB’s Millenium and Zenit switch ranges are ISI marked and are compatible for installation in smart homes / buildings alongwith homes with conventional electrical wiring setup. ABB India will manufacture Zenit and Millenium range of switches at ABB’s Smart Buildings factory in Bengaluru. ABB claims that this factory is one of the first in India to introduce assembly of switches using ABB’s properietery YuMi cobots*.

*Cobots are dual arm collaborative robot designed to work safely alongside humans without the need for fences unlike industrial robots which need dedicated space for working.

ABB stated that it’s Bengaluru factory has the capacity to manufacture over 10,00,000 switches in a year owing to the increased efficiency achieved by application of robotics and automation in the facility.

Millenium and Zenit Switches Features and Application areas

Among both the newly launched ABB switch ranges Millenium series comes with slim design and sleek finish with various functionalities like On/Off, USB port, Aux port, Mic port, Fan regulator etc. These switches can be integrated with ABB’s proprietary home automation solution ‘ABB-free@home’.

ABB India’s Zenit switches is the more premium switch range. The Zenit switches are available with additional options like multi-room audio solutions including FM radio and alarm options. They also have touch operation option and come with LED indications. These are available in four colors and 130 functions.

Expressing his views newly appointed Mr.Kiran Dutt, President, Electrification business, ABB India Ltd, said, “Customer needs now go beyond design, as they are also looking for increased functionality and value in all products. ABB’s Millenium and Zenit switches come in a sustainable design, are easy-to-install and suit any type of need, including homes, hotels, offices, and shops, owing to their modular concept”.

Growing market of Modular Switches in India

With an increasing number of smart cities evolving in India, the demand for latest space-saving electrical solutions is rising. According to a report published by IBEF (Indian Brand and Equity Foundation) Indian Modular Switch market is expected to be $ 1 billion by 2022 with a CAGR growth of 20%.
