Trentar to Invest ₹30,000 Cr for Data Centre Project
Trentar Private Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Government of Maharashtra to develop a hyperscale data centre project with an investment of Rs. 30,000 crore. The MoU was signed under the Invest Maharashtra initiative, which facilitates investment in the state.
Headquartered in Mumbai, Trentar is an Indian technology and digital infrastructure company and part of the Dorf Ketal Group, a multinational specialty chemicals group.
Trentar’s Data Centre Construction Slated for 2028
The upcoming Trentar data centre will have a capacity of 500 MW. It will cater to growing demand for computing and data storage driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, data analytics, and cloud services.
Under the MoU, the Maharashtra government will facilitate the permissions, registrations, approvals, clearances, and incentives required for the project.
Trentar expects to complete land acquisition for the project by the end of 2026, with construction scheduled to begin in 2028. The company is targeting to begin commercial operations in 2029–30.
Emphasizing company’s experience in infrastructure sector, Mr Subodh Menon, Co-Founder and Vice Chairman of Dorf Ketal Group and Trentar, said, “We will bring that experience to a modular Data Centre campus built for rapid deployment and scalable growth, with sustainability, advanced technology and cost efficiency at its core”.
Sustainability Measures for Trentar’s Data Centre
Trentar plans to source 51% of the electricity required for the data centre from Renewable Energy (RE) projects. The company is also evaluating options for treated-water reuse and water-efficient cooling systems. However, the final choice for the technology that will be deployed at the data centre will depend on feasibility studies.
Growing Need for Data Centre Infrastructure in India
Data centre development in India has gained momentum with the growth in data generation and the adoption of AI, increasing demand for domestic data storage and computing infrastructure.
Recent developments include HCLTech’s planned investment of Rs. 14,257 crore to establish its first AI data centre in Odisha and Anant Raj Limited’s commitment to invest Rs. 25,000 crore in data centre development in Haryana.
In December 2025, the Andhra Pradesh government allotted 480 acres across the Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli districts to Adani Infra Private Limited for data centre development.
According to a PTI report published in October 2026, India generates nearly 20% of global data but accounts for only around 3% of global data centre capacity. This gap highlights the need for further investment in the country’s data centre infrastructure.
