HCL–Foxconn Semiconductor Plant to Begin Operations in 2028

HCL Group and Foxconn have laid the foundation stone for a semiconductor manufacturing plant in Sector 28 of the Jewar area in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. The plant is expected to begin operations in 2028.

The two companies have formed a joint venture, India Chip Private Limited, to develop the facility. This project is being set up with an investment of Rs. 3,706 crore. HCL Group holds a 60% stake in the joint venture, while Taiwan-based Foxconn owns the remaining 40%.

Once operational, the facility will become the first semiconductor manufacturing unit in Uttar Pradesh. The plant will have a capacity to process 20,000 wafers per month and will operate in the Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) segment. The design output capacity of this facility is estimated at around 36 million units per month.

The plant will focus on manufacturing Display Driver Integrated Circuits (DDICs). These chips are used in a range of electronic devices, including smartphones, televisions, computers, and wearable devices.

The facility is expected to generate more than 3,500 direct and indirect employment opportunities. The project is also expected to support the development of local supply chains and encourage participation of companies across the semiconductor value chain.
