Reliance Industries to Partner with Rolls-Royce for Indigenous Combat Engine

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and Rolls-Royce have announced their ‘strategic intent to partner’ for the development of an indigenous combat engine for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme.

Under the proposed partnership, the companies intend to jointly pursue the design, development, manufacturing and delivery of the combat engine for AMCA programme. The AMCA is a planned twin-engine, fifth-generation stealth multirole fighter project designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) for the Indian Air Force and Navy.

As part of the partnership, Reliance Industries and Rolls-Royce will also explore the formation of a dedicated Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India. The facility is intended to support capabilities across power and propulsion technologies, including design, development, manufacturing, testing, production and through-life support of aero engines.

Commenting on the development, Anant Ambani, Executive Director, Reliance Industries, said, “India’s strategic autonomy requires sovereign capability in critical technologies. Our intent with Rolls-Royce is to combine their world-leading expertise in advanced propulsion with Reliance’s technology, manufacturing, scale and execution capabilities to build an indigenous aero-engine ecosystem in India”.
