Ashoka Buildcon Suspended from Bidding for NHAI Tenders

Nashik-headquartered Ashoka Buildcon Ltd. has been suspended from participating in National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) ongoing and future tenders. This decision comes after two precast pre-stressed concrete (PSC) girders on NH-66 fell on a commercial goods carrier vehicle, resulting in the death of the driver. The incident took place on the six-lane Aroor to Thuravoor Thekku section of NH-66 (Km 366.330 to Km 379.082) in Kerala. As per Ashoka Buildcon’s stock filing regarding the matter, this suspension by NHAI is temporary and will last either for 1 month or till investigation by the Expert Committee is concluded, whichever is later.

Ashoka Buildcon’s shares took a 3.5% hit after this information was made public through the company’s filing dated 27th November 2025. On 28th November 2025, the company’s shares were trading at Rs. 177.76 apiece against Rs. 183.97 apiece on the previous trading day.

NHAI had awarded the Rs. 1,668.50 crore order to Ashoka Buildcon in December 2022 for the development of the aforementioned section of NH-66. This involved construction of an elevated 6-lane corridor in the specified stretch as well as development of the already existing 4-lane ground-level road in the aforementioned stretch. The work on this section is currently ongoing.

As per Ashoka Buildcon, the incident was unforeseen and occurred due to failure of hydraulic jack. Further, the company mentioned that the aforementioned goods carrier entered the prohibited construction zone “forcibly”. “The Company is in process of ascertaining the financial impact and shall intimate to the Exchanges in due course of time. Further, all other operations of the Company remain unaffected”, mentions Ashoka Buildcon’s filing.
