Vikas Kaushal of Kearney India Appointed as HPCL CMD for Five Years
Mr. Vikas Kaushal has been appointed as Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd.’s (HPCL) Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) for a period of five years. The proposal for his appointment was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on 6th March 2025.
Mr. Kaushal completed his Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from Panjab University and went on to earn his Master of Business Administration degree from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.
Mr. Vikas Kaushal started his career as Deputy Manager at ICICI Ltd. in 1995 and worked there for five years. Thereafter, he joined Kearney, a US-based management consulting firm. For 8 years, Mr. Kaushal served as a consultant at Kearney, after which he was promoted to become the Head of Kearney’s energy and process industries in Asia Pacific region in 2008. His career at Kearney followed an impressive trajectory with him being elected to the company’s Global Board of Directors, and subsequently becoming Kearney’s Managing Director and Country Head (India). In 2020, Mr. Vikas Kaushal assumed the position of ‘Partner, Chairman India’ at Kearney.
Mr. Kaushal’s appointment as HPCL CMD is a rare case of a private sector personnel being appointed to the apex position of a Public Sector Undertaking.
