Union Cabinet Approves Varanasi Airport Expansion Plan
Union Cabinet has approved expansion plan for Varanasi’s Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport. The estimated cost of expansion of Varanasi airport is Rs. 2,869.65 crore as per Airport Authority of India’s proposal. After this expansion, Varanasi airport will be capable of handling 9.9 million passengers per annum from the current 3.9 million passengers per annum. As a part of this expansion a new terminal building sprawling over 75,000 sq.m will be constructed, which will be capable of handling 5,000 peak hour passengers. The length of runway at the airport will also be extended to 4,075 m from the current 2,745 m. A new apron capable of park 20 aircrafts will also be built as a part of this expansion.
