Tender Out for Kolkata Metro’s Purple Line Extension
Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) has floated a tender valued at Rs. 377.82 crore for extension of Kolkata Metro’s Line-3 (Purple Line). This extension will connect IIM Calcutta to Joka Metro station on the Purple Line.
Scope of work specified in this tender involves construction of a viaduct from Ch.(-)495.769 m to Ch.(-)2046.594 m on Kolkata Metro’s Purple Line. This viaduct will connect the existing Joka metro station to IIM Calcutta. Construction of a new elevated metro station at IIM Calcutta is also included in the scope of work of this tender. The successful bidder will be required to build 44 pillars to support this elevated viaduct. Completion period for these works has been specified as 30 months (2.5 years).
Last date for submission of bids under this tender is 22nd September 2025.
The to-be-constructed IIM Calcutta station will have a provision to be connected to Diamond Park in the future as a part of Kolkata Metro’s planned Joka-Diamond Park project on the Purple Line.
Extension of Kolkata Metro’s Purple Line to IIM Calcutta is expected to ease the pressure on Kolkata Metro’s North-South Line. Further, this extension will facilitate metro connectivity of IIM Calcutta to Kolkata Airport, thus providing an alternative to typically high-traffic road routes.
