Sterling and Wilson Secures Rs. 2,200 Crore BoS Contract for 1,225 MW Solar Park

Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Limited (SWREL), a major Indian Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) and EPC company, has secured Balance of System (BoS) contract worth Rs. 2,200 crore from NTPC, for a 1,225 MW solar power facility in Khavda, Gujarat.
This information was conveyed in Sterling and Wilson’s stock filing dated 22nd August 2022.
Strling & Wilson to Provide BoS Services to NTPC’s Mega Solar Park at Khavda
Sterling and Wilson will provide BoS at NTPC’s mega solar park at Khavda in Kutch region of Gujarat. BoS encompasses the work in developing a solar facility except for the supply of solar modules. The aggregate installed capacity of this facility will be 1,225 MW.
This solar park is to be developed as four blocks or four smaller solar power projects, three of which will be of 315 MW capacity, while the fourth will be of 310 MW capacity.
NTPC had issued tender for this project in June 2022.
Scope of Work in the Contract
Scope of work for Sterling & Winson in this contract entails design, engineering and manufacturing of these solar power projects. This involves designing and constructing the solar module mounting structures and erecting them. These structures are to be equipped with a tracker-based technology for solar panels for optimum power generation. SWREL will also be responsible for fixing solar modules on these mounting structures, and for inter-modular connections. Subsequently, the company will install, test and commission the projects.
Apart from this, the company will also provide Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services for these projects for a period of 3 years.
As per Sterling and Wilson, the formal contract signing will take place shortly.
NTPC to Develop India’s Largest Solar Park in Khavda for Green Hydrogen Generation

NTPC’s Khavda Solar Park is set to be India’s largest so far. As per NTPC’s press release dated 13th July 2021, NTPC Renewable Energy Limited has been granted permission by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to set up a 4,750 MW solar park in Khavda. As per NTPC, the company has plans to produce Green Hydrogen on a commercial scale from the energy generated by this park. The 1,225 MW solar power facility for which SWREL has won the BoS contract is a part of this larger project.
MNRE gave NTPC its go-ahead under Mode 8 (Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park) of Solar Park Scheme. Other projects that were granted approval under Mode 8 of the scheme are Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited’s (GSECL) 3,325 MW solar park, and Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited’s (GIPCL) 2,375 MW solar park.
Earlier in February 2020, the Government had issued a notification to develop energy parks of 50 GW capacity in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
