Ravin Group Takes Over Cable Corporation of India Ltd., Restarts Operation

Ravin Group, the manufacturer of wires and cables has announced the acquisition of Cable Corporation of India Ltd.

Ravin has also revamped the Sinnar, Nasik plant of Cable Corporation which was visited by Mr Subhash Desai, Minister of Industries of Maharashtra and Mr Chhagan Bhujbal, Minister of Consumer Affairs of Maharashtra on 19th February 2022. They flagged off the first dispatches of Extra High Voltage (EHV) cables, High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) cables from newly revamped Sinnar, Nasik plant.

Brief History of Cable Corporation of India

Cable Corporation of India Ltd. was established in 1957, through a joint venture between the Khatau and Thakersey groups and German promoters Siemens and F&G.

The company set up a power cable factory in Mumbai and began with the manufacture of PVC insulated cables and wires for the first time in India. About 1992, a second plant was set up at Nashik in Maharashtra.

Cable Corporation was also able to procure license to make EHV cables from Japan’s Mitsubishi Cable Company (the then technology leader) and became the first Asian company outside Japan to get such license. It was also the first cable company in India to get ISO 9001 QMS certification.

According to info available on official website Cable Corporation of India was the first company in India to manufacture and supply Extra High Voltage cables of 220 KV in 1994 and achieved a supply of 100 KM of EHV cables by 2010.

But even after so many achievements the company started having financial troubles since early 2000’s and was finally delisted from stock exchanges in September 2013.

Strategic Acquisition by Ravin of Cable Corporation of India Ltd.

Ravin in its media release stated that the acquisition of Cable Corporation of India Ltd. will help enhance its manufacturing capacity from 250 V right up to 400KV.

The release further added, “With safety being a key concern in the field of electricity, Cable Corporation India Ltd. cables have always been a preferred choice for quality-conscious customers, not just in the country but across the world”.

Ravin also added that the addition of the two Cable Corporation plants will help extending its presence across the country.
