Oil India Commissions India’s First Green Hydrogen Plant in Assam
Oil India Limited (OIL) has commissioned India’s first pilot Green Hydrogen plant at its Jorhat Pump Station in Assam.
This pilot plant was set up by OIL in a period of three months, and it has a daily production capacity of 10 Kg Green Hydrogen, which is 99.999% pure. The OIL plant uses 100 KW Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) Electrolyser array to produce hydrogen by splitting water molecules.
These electrolysers are powered by Renewable Energy (RE) from a 500 KW solar energy plant, thus qualifying the produced Hydrogen as ‘Green Hydrogen’. This plant is expected to increase its daily production capacity to 30 Kg per day in the near future.
OIL had announced its plan to set up this plant in December 2021. OIL is also collaborating with IIT Guwahati to explore the possibility and potential of blending Green Hydrogen with Natural Gas and on the industrial applications of such a blend.
