NSL Sugars to Set Up 300 KLPD Grain-Based Ethanol Plant in Karnataka

NSL Sugars Limited will establish a Grain-Based Distillery (GBD) unit in Karnataka for the production of fuel-grade Ethanol. This unit will have an Ethanol production capacity of 300 Kilo Litres Per Day (KLPD). For the implementation of this project, the company plans to invest around Rs. 306 crore.

The company will establish the Grain-Based Distillery unit at its existing Ethanol manufacturing plant, located in Bhusnoor village, Kalaburagi district, Karnataka. Currently, the company is producing ethanol from sugarcane at this plant.

NSL Sugars’ upcoming Grain-Based Ethanol unit in Karnataka is expected to be developed over an area of approximately 147.87 acres. Construction work for the new Grain-Based Distillery unit is likely to commence by March 2026.

As part of the overall project scope, NSL Sugars also plans to develop a 16 MW captive power plant within the same complex to support the operational requirements of the Ethanol facility. The project is expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for nearly 300 people.

With the addition of Grain-Based Ethanol production capabilities, the plant will be able to switch from producing Ethanol using sugarcane during the crushing season to utilizing grains such as maize and broken rice during the off-season, thereby enabling continuous, year-round operations.
