NHSRCL Opens Track Slab Factory for India’s First Bullet Train

National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. has opened track slab manufacturing factory at Kim Village, near Surat for supporting India’s first bullet train project. This information was shared by the company in its press release dated 30th November 2024.

As per the company’s press release, this plant produces about 120 track slabs every day. This factory employs Japan’s Shinkansen technology to produce ballastless track slabs, which will be used in Gujarat and Daman-Diu sections of the 237 Km long bullet train corridor. As of 29th November 2024, about 9,775 slabs have been cast so far at this plant. Each of these slabs is 2,200 mm wide, 4,900 mm long, and 190 mm thick, and weighs approximately 3.9 tonnes.

National High Speed Rail Corp. is also planning to establish another track slab manufacturing facility between Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Dahanu in Maharashtra by next year. Tenders for this second factory will be invited by February 2025.

India’s first bullet train project, also known as, Mumbai Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR), is an under-construction high-speed rail line project connecting Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The Mumbai – Ahmedabad bullet train corridor will be 508 Km long. After the completion of this bullet train project, the travelling time between the two cities will be reduced to 2 hours with limited stops and 3 hours with all stops. The first section of this project is expected to be commissioned between Surat and Bilimora in south Gujarat by 2026.
