L&T Wins Rs. 2,500–5,000 Cr. Bullet Train Track Order
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured an order valued between Rs. 2,500 crore and Rs. 5,000 crore from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL). The contract involves the construction of 156 route Km (RKm) of high-speed ballastless track (Package T1) for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor. The company shared this information in a stock exchange filing dated 15th September 2025.
Scope of work includes designing, supplying, constructing, testing, and commissioning track works between Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex and Zaroli village in Gujarat. Of the total 156 km, 135 Km will be constructed on elevated viaducts, while the remaining 21 Km of track in this package will be built for underground sections. This package of the MAHSR bullet train project will be developed on a Design-Build Lump-Sum Price basis. Completion period for works in this package has been specified as 2,157 days (about 5 years and 11 months).
L&T had emerged as the lowest (L1) bidder for this project in July 2025.
The MAHSR bullet train project adopts a special slab track system instead of conventional ballastless tracks. L&T had commissioned its slab track manufacturing facility in Anand, Gujarat in October 2023. Originally developed for Japan’s Shinkansen high-speed railway, where it was first deployed in 1964, the special slab track system offers lower maintenance requirements and is better suited for rail routes with high traffic density.
