L&T Wins Contract from NHSRC for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project

Railways Business of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Construction has secured a contract worth between Rs. 2,500- 5,000 crore from National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL), a special purpose vehicle (SPV) for implementation of high-speed rail corridor in India.
L&T to Supply Tracks for Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Project

L&T Construction has been awarded contract for construction of 116 Route Km of high-speed ballastless track works (Package No: T3) for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Project.
MAHSR T3 Package’s scope of work includes design, supply, construction, testing and commissioning of track works on a design-build lump sum price basis.
All of the above-mentioned work would be for double line high-speed railway between Vadodara and Sabarmati in Gujarat.
L&T had earlier in December 2020 won a Rs. 24,000 Crore civil works contract from NHSRCL for the MAHSR project.
L&T to Use Japan’s Shinkansen Track Technology
L&T will be using Japanese Shinkansen track technology in this project. This technology uses precast Reinforced Concrete (RC) slabs called slab tracks, over which fastening devices and rails are fitted.

Upon completion, this slab track system will enable trains to travel at speeds of up to 320 km per hour.
About Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project
MAHSR project better known as Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project is an under-construction high-speed rail line connecting Ahmedabad and Mumbai. It was inaugurated in 2017 by Indian PM Narendra Modi.
Ahmedabad-Mumbai high-speed rail corridor shall be 508 Km long. The completed project shall connect the two cities in less than 2 hours with limited stops and in 3 hours with all stops.
The project covers 155.76 Km in the State of Maharashtra, 4.3 Km in the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and 348.04 Km in the State of Gujarat with 12 stations along the route.
As per a statement by SC Agnihotri, MD of the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) given on 13thApril 2022, the trial runs for Mumbai- Ahemdabad bullet train project is expected to start by 2026 and the services for public will only be available by 2027.
About National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL): NHSRCL is a special purpose vehicle jointly held with Central Government through Ministry of Railways and two State Governments viz Government of Gujarat and Government of Maharashtra. It was incorporated in 2016 with an object to finance, construct, maintain and manage high-speed rail corridor in India.
