L&T to Implement 24×7 Water Supply Model in parts of Guwahati
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Ltd.’s Water & Effluent Treatment (WET) business segment has won an order for a water management project in Assam. The company received the said order from Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water & Sewerage Board, with its value being between Rs. 1,000 to 2,500 crore.
As per L&T’s press release, this order will be executed on a turnkey basis, where the company will design, build, and provide Operation and Maintenance (O&M) for a period of 5 years. Further, the scope also pertains to the design, supply, installation, construction, testing, and commissioning of project components.
As for the components, L&T will build barge-mounted intake system to draw water, and to carry this untreated water ‘raw water rising main’ will be used. Further, a water treatment plant will be built, and the water treated through it will be distributed to every household, for which booster pumping station, a distribution network, and household service connections will be established.
Additionally, L&T will also integrate Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for real-time monitoring and performance management.
In India, strides are being made to change the predominant intermittent water supply model to a continuous (24×7) water supply model. For the households in South-East Guwahati, this project will enhance water supply reliability with a continuous water supply model.
