L&T is L1 for 7.955 Km Civil Contract for Chennai Metro Phase-II

Larsen & Toubro, an Indian multinational major of engineering, construction and manufacturing emerged as the lowest bidder for construction of 7.955 Km elevated section of Chennai Metro Phase-II. 7.955 Km is a part of new 26.09 Km Line-4 of the proposed 118.9 Km phase-II Chennai Metro.

Chennai Metro Rail limited (CMRL*) opened financial bids for the first civil contract for construction of 7.955 Km elevated stretch ( Karambakkam-Porur) of Phase-II of Chennai Metro on 8th December 2020. L&T emerged as the lowest bidder by quoting an amount of Rs. 1,035 crore whereas Hindustan Construction Company-KEC International (HCC-KEC) JV  had quoted Rs 1,099.15 crore and NCC quoted Rs 1,449.96 crore.

CMRL had invited tender for this section in July 2020. The assigned contract is to be completed in 1080 days.

L&T’s Scope of Work for Karambakkam-Porur Section

Contract includes construction of elevated metro stations at Power House, Vadapalani, Saligramam, Avichi School, Alwartiru Nagar, Valasaravakkam, Karambakkam, Alapapakkam Junction, and Porur Junction and associated viaduct along with all associated works.

More About Chennai Metro

At present 45.10 Km of Chennai metro is operational, 9.051 Km is under construction and 118.90 Km is approved, which is Phase-II of the metro.

In 2019, Government of Tamil Nadu had approved phase – II with 118.9 Km comprising 3 new lines and an estimated cost of Rs. 61,843 crore. Phase – II is likely to be completed by 2026.
