Jindal Steel & Power to Develop 300 MW Coal-based Power Plant in Botswana

Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (JSPL), an Indian steel, mining and infrastructure company, has won the contract to build a 300 MW coal-based thermal power plant in the coal-rich country of Botswana.

Scope of work for JSPL under the contract entails financing and designing the aforementioned power plant, followed by its construction, operation, maintenance and eventual decommissioning.

JSPL will have ownership of the plant as an Independent Power Producer (IPP) and will be selling the electricity from this power plant to Botswana Power Corporation (BPC).

This upcoming plant is the only fossil-fuel-based power plant to be developed in Botswana in the next 20 years.
