India’s Power Demand Touches All-Time High of 189.64 GW

India’s Power Secretary Mr. Sanjiv Nandan Sahai on Saturday tweeted that all India’s power demand on 30th January 2021 at 10.39 hrs IST reached a new high of 1,89,644 MW (189.64 GW).

Before this Union Power Minister Mr. R.K. Singh in a tweet on Friday informed that the power demand and supply surged to a new high of 1,88,452 MW at 9:42 am on 28th January 2021. He also added that we may touch the 200 GW very soon. The government is linking this demand with positive growth in various industrial sectors after the pandemic lockdown.

Last power demand peak was seen on 30th December 2020 at 182 GW before that the highest electricity peak demand met was 175.5GW (in September, 2018). The Minister further again tweeted on 29th January 2021, “Now-a-days, even though all commercial establishments have not fully opened, the peak demand met is fluctuating between 186 to 188GW”.
