Hindustan Zinc (HZL), the world’s largest integrated zinc producer and a part of Vedanta Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Group Nirmal to set up a zinc wire manufacturing facility in Rajasthan. The plant will be developed at HZL’s Zinc Industrial Park at Khankhala in Bhilwara district of Rajasthan.

HZL – Nirmal Group Zinc Wire Plant to Cater to Various Sectors

As per the terms of the MoU, Group Nirmal will manufacture zinc wire products using Hindustan Zinc’s Special High Grade (SHG) zinc. The zinc wire produced at the facility will primarily be used for thermal spray coating and metallizing processes and will cater to sectors including infrastructure, renewable energy, automotive, and industrial engineering.

Under the collaboration, Hindustan Zinc will provide raw materials and long-term support to Group Nirmal.

Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Arun Misra, CEO & Whole-time Director of Hindustan Zinc, said, “Our partnership with Group Nirmal highlights the growing industry confidence in this transformative platform. Zinc wire manufacturing is a critical segment supporting corrosion protection and infrastructure longevity across sectors”.

HZL’s Zinc Industrial Park as a Downstream Manufacturing Hub

The Zinc Industrial Park has been developed in collaboration with Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation as a dedicated downstream manufacturing hub.

Hindustan Zinc plans to develop the park into a modern manufacturing hub supporting renewable energy, recycling, investment, and job creation in Rajasthan. The Zinc Industrial Park is designed to attract industries related to galvanizing, zinc alloys, zinc oxide, battery materials, and other advanced zinc applications.

Hindustan Zinc’s Other Major Expansion Projects

Apart from the wire manufacturing unit in Rajasthan, the company is also undertaking other expansion projects. Hindustan Zinc has planned a capital expenditure between USD 500 million and USD 600 million for FY27.

The company is currently setting up a 2,50,000 Tons Per Annum (KTPA) integrated zinc smelter at Debari. In its Q4 FY26 earnings call, HZL mentioned a CapEx of USD 2,600 per ton for this expansion project. Once completed, the project will increase the company’s total metal production capacity to between 1.35 million tons and 1.4 million tons.

Additionally, the company is setting up a phosphoric acid plant and a Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) plant in Rajasthan. The phosphoric acid plant is expected to commence operations in Q2 FY27, while the DAP plant is scheduled to begin operations in late 2026 or early 2027. However, the company has not specified the investment planned for these projects.
