Gas Authority of India Ltd. (GAIL) held its Annual Shareholder’s Meeting on 26th August 2022. Mr. Manoj Jain, the PSU’s Chairman, stated that GAIL has set a target for achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

“In line with India’s vision to achieve net zero by 2070, GAIL has completed a comprehensive study on science-based net-zero ambition and intends to achieve a 100 per cent reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and a 35 per cent reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2040”, Mr. Jain explained.*

Some of the steps that GAIL has already taken in this direction include the supply of Hydrogen blended Natural Gas. Aavantika Gas Ltd., a joint venture between GAIL and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), has supplied Hydrogen blended Natural Gas for its city gas distribution network in Indore. Apart from this, GAIL is setting up a Green Hydrogen plant of 4.3 tonnes per day capacity at Vijaipur in Madhya Pradesh. A 10 MW solar project in Vijaipur is also under development.
