DRDO allows Private Sector Partnership in Missile Production
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in a bid to promote domestic defence industry, has allowed private sector firms to both develop and produce missile systems such as Vertically-launched Short-range Surface to Air Missile system (VL-SRSAM) project.
Central Government has allowed the private sector to co-develop missile systems under the Development cum Production Partner (DCPP) programme to promote Make-in-India initiative in the defence sector.
DRDO in the past has helped the private sector companies including Tata and Baba Kalyani Industries (Bharat Forge Ltd.) to develop the ATAGS howitzer gun which is likely to be the main artillery gun for the Indian Army.
