Adani Green Bags World’s Largest Solar Development Bid for Rs. 45,000 Cr.

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), an Indian renewable energy company and part of Indian conglomerate Adani Group has bagged the world’s largest single solar development bid awarded by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). This would entail an investment of Rs. 45,000 Cr.

Highlights of these SECI Solar Power Projects

The projects are expected to create 400,000 direct and indirect jobs. Also renewable energy generated from the projects will displace 900 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.

As per agreement, AGEL will be developing solar power projects aggregating to 8 GW capacity by 2025. Initial 2GW capacity will be implemented by 2022 and rest will be added in annual 2 GW increments through 2025. The projects will be at different locations, including a 2 GW  single-site generation project.

As per agreement AGEL will also establish solar cell and module manufacturing capacity of 2 GW by 2022 in addition to existing 1.3 GW capacity.

Expressing his thoughts Mr. Gautam Adani, Chairman of Adani Group mentioned “We are honoured to be selected by SECI for this landmark solar award. In today’s world, climate adaptation cannot be considered independent of economic development priorities and both, job creation as well as decarbonization must be simultaneous objectives” as reported in AEGL press release dated 9th June 2020.
