Construction of Micron Tech’s Sanand Semicon Plant Ph 1 to be Completed by Dec 2025
Mechanical, Electrical and Civil EPC works for phase 1 of US-based Micron Technology’s upcoming semiconductor plant at Sanand, Gujarat, will be completed by December 2025. These works are being executed by Tata Projects Ltd.
Micron’s semiconductor plant is being developed in two phases, and Tata Projects started mechanical, electrical and civil works on phase 1 of the plant in July 2024. Among other things, this phase involves developing 5 lakh sq. ft. of cleanroom space. As of now, 60% of Tata Projects’ work on phase 1 of the plant has been completed with a workforce totaling 3,500 people. Commenting on the progress, Mr. Amit Agrawal, Project Director, Tata Projects, added, “We are currently undertaking civil work, mechanical, electrical and plumbing work, along with engineering-related tasks as per the designs given by Micron”.
Earlier, Tata Projects’ work on phase-1 of the plant was scheduled to be completed by December 2024.
Micron Technology’s upcoming plant will essentially be a back-end semiconductor fabrication facility, which will enable Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) for Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) and NAND flash memory-based products. These products are used in smartphones, servers and personal computers. This plant will address demand from domestic as well as international markets.
As per several media reports, upon full commissioning, this will be one of the world’s largest back-end semiconductor unit. The project site at Sanand is spread over 93 acres and about 50% of the total area is being used for Phase-1 of construction.
